The source is the whole plant of the Solanum spirale.
Plant morphology: Solanum spirale
Subshrub. The stem is erect, green, round, with slightly angular young branches and white lenticels. Single leaves are alternate, sometimes paired on the same side of the branch, elliptical, 5-18 cm long, 2.5-8 cm wide, with a short pointed tip, entire margin, gradually narrowing and extending into a petiole at the base, with a petiole 0.5-1 cm long. Umbel inflorescences are born on the stem, sometimes opposite to the leaves; flowers are white. The pedicel is about 1 cm long, the calyx is about 2.5 mm long, 5 shallowly lobed, the corolla is short, the lobes are 5, long ovate-lanceolate; stamens are 5; ovary has 2 chambers. The berry is spherical, 3-4 mm in diameter, and turns yellow when ripe.
It grows near villages, roadsides, and valleys. Distributed in Yunnan, Guangxi and other places.
Harvest in summer and autumn, cut into sections and dried.
Chemical composition: The roots are rich in alkaloids. The root bark and wood also contain glycosides and alkaloids.
