Benefits of Consuming Dangshen:

1. Nourishes the Spleen and Stomach:

Consuming Dangshen can nourish the spleen and stomach. It can help alleviate obesity and improve skin condition. Dangshen primarily nourishes the lungs and is effective in this regard.

2. Nourishes Qi and Blood:

Dangshen can also replenish qi and nourish blood, making it suitable for women with deficiency of qi and blood, fatigue, and pale complexion. Regular consumption of Dangshen improves blood cells and replenishes blood and qi. It has a good effect on a series of symptoms caused by deficiency of qi and blood.

3. Tonifies the Middle Jiao and Benefits Qi:

Dangshen is neutral in nature and tastes sweet. Compared with ginseng, although Dangshen's ability to replenish qi is weaker, its advantage lies in its moderate nature. It can tonify qi without causing excessive heat in the body. Therefore, it is more suitable for nourishing and maintaining health.

Ways to Consume Dangshen:

1. Dangshen Chicken Soup:

Ingredients: 1 whole free-range chicken (approximately 1750g), 10g honey dates, 10g Dangshen, seasoning: 3 green onions, 5 slices of ginger, an appropriate amount of yellow wine, an appropriate amount of salt, an appropriate amount of cooked lard.

Method: Prepare the ingredients, tie the green onions into a knot, slice the ginger. Cut the chicken into medium-sized pieces, removing the head and claws but leaving the liver and heart. Heat the wok, add the cooked lard, and sauté the green onions and ginger. Stir-fry the chicken pieces, add yellow wine, and when the fragrance is strong, transfer to a clay pot. Add enough water, Dangshen, and honey dates. Bring to a boil over high heat, skim off any impurities, then simmer over low heat without covering for 2-3 hours. Season with salt before serving.

2. Dangshen and Huangqi Rice Porridge:

Ingredients: 10g Dangshen, 10g Huangqi, 100g glutinous rice.

Method: Decoct Dangshen and Huangqi in water and extract the juice. Remove the Dangshen and Huangqi, then add glutinous rice and cook into porridge. Finally, add sugar to taste.

Precautions for Consuming Dangshen:

Although Dangshen is neutral in nature, it is important to pay attention to the dosage. Do not consume large amounts to avoid causing dryness and heat in the body. Generally, a dosage of around 10g of Dangshen is recommended.

Dangshen has the function of replenishing qi and promoting hair growth. It is not suitable for people with excess heat symptoms such as excessive anger or those with cold and fever. It may worsen the heat symptoms in the body and hinder recovery from illness.

Like other tonifying herbs, it is not advisable to consume foods that are prone to causing bloating, such as radishes, during the period of taking Dangshen. In addition, Dangshen and Ligusticum wallichii are incompatible and should not be used together.

Both Danggui (Chinese Angelica) and Dangshen are tonifying substances and can be made into medicinal diets for regular consumption. However, it should be noted that both are blood-activating substances, so they should be used with caution by individuals with excessive body heat and excessive heart fire.
