[What is Rudi Wugong?]
Rudi Wugong refers to the rhizome or whole herb of the plant Qizhi Jue from the family Polypodiaceae. It is also called Daodi Wugong, Wugongcao, Daolinqi, Didi Wugong, Guoluwugong, Guolu Ejiang, Jiaqiyi Zhifahua, and Qiye Yizhiqiang.
It is harvested, washed, cut into pieces, and dried or used fresh during the summer and autumn seasons.
Rudi Wugong grows in moist forests or wet areas along ditches. It is mainly distributed in Yunnan, Guangxi, Hainan, Taiwan, and other regions.
It is a perennial herbaceous plant with a plant height of 30-50cm. It has thick and strong rhizomes that grow horizontally, as well as numerous fleshy roots. The rhizomes are thick and have a purple-red color on the outside and a white color on the inside, resembling a centipede.
[Medicinal Effects and Functions of Rudi Wugong]
Rudi Wugong has the effects of clearing heat, resolving phlegm, and neutralizing snake venom. It is used for treating pharyngitis, tonsillitis, cough, asthma, and externally for treating snake bites.
Dosage: 3-5 Qian (approx. 9-15 grams); externally, apply crushed fresh roots or stems to the affected area.
1. For treating bruises and internal injuries, promoting blood circulation, and relieving pain: Soak Rudi Wugong in child's urine for forty-nine days, wash it, and dry it in the sun. Grind it into powder. Take 1.8 grams per dose, swallow with wine or hot water.
2. For treating fever and cough: Take 15 grams of Rudi Wugong and 120 grams of pig trotters, boil them in water and consume the soup.
[Clinical Applications of Rudi Wugong]
1. For cough and asthma: Take 9 grams of Rudi Wugong and 3 grams of licorice, decoct them in water and consume.
2. For bruises and internal injuries: Take an appropriate amount of Rudi Wugong, grind it into powder, take 2 grams per dose, and swallow with rice wine or hot water.
3. For dysentery: Take 9 grams of fresh Rudi Wugong and 20 grams of fresh Malachium chinense, pound them to extract the juice, and drink it with saltwater.
Although Rudi Wugong can be used to treat cough, it is not recommended for pregnant women to use.
