Zhengan Xifeng Tang is used to treat liver wind internal movement caused by liver and kidney yin deficiency, liver yang hyperactivity, and disorder of qi and blood. Symptoms include dizziness, swollen eyes, tinnitus, headache, and drunken-like appearance. There may also be gradual impairment of limbs, gradual deviation of the mouth angle; or even dizziness, falling down, unconsciousness, awakening only after a period of time, and inability to recover after awakening, with a pulse that is string-like, long, and strong. The treatment principle is to calm the liver and suppress wind, while nourishing yin and subduing yang. ②Ling Jiao Gou Teng Tang is used to treat liver wind internal movement caused by pathogenic heat invading the jueyin, liver meridian heat excess, and wind movement due to extreme heat. Symptoms include high fever that does not recede, restlessness, twitching of the limbs, coma, red and dry tongue, prickles on the tongue, and a string-like and rapid pulse. The treatment principle is to cool the liver, extinguish wind, while increasing body fluids and relaxing tendons.
Both Ling Jiao Gou Teng Tang and Tian Ma Gou Teng Yin can calm the liver and suppress wind, and treat liver wind internal movement. Among them, Ling Jiao Gou Teng Tang is mainly used to clear heat and extinguish wind, and is mainly used for high fever and convulsions caused by liver meridian heat excess and extreme heat-induced wind movement; Tian Ma Gou Teng Yin has a milder effect in calming the liver and suppressing wind, but it also clears heat, activates blood circulation, and calms the spirit. It is suitable for headaches, dizziness, and insomnia caused by liver yang hyperactivity and liver wind disturbance. Tian Ma Gou Teng Yin is mainly used for mild liver yang hyperactivity, while Zhengan Xifeng Tang contains more nourishing yin herbs and is used for yin deficiency wind movement, limb twitching, with yin deficiency and yang hyperactivity as the pathological mechanism.
