【Throat Grass Plant Morphology】
Throat grass is an annual herb that grows to a height of 8-15 centimeters. The entire plant is covered with fine white hairs.
The leaves emerge from the roots and form a rosette that spreads flat on the ground. The leaves have slender petioles. The leaf blades are nearly circular, about 15 millimeters in diameter, with a slightly heart-shaped base and rounded toothed margins. The upper surface is green and sometimes has patches of purple-red coloration.
The flower stems emerge from the rosette and bear 3-7 branches. At the apex of each branch, there is a small umbel peduncle that forms an umbel-shaped inflorescence. The calyx is green, deeply divided into 5 lobes, and persistent. The corolla is white, with the lower part fused into a short tubular shape and the upper part divided into 5 spreading lobes. There are 5 stamens, and the stigma is not prominent.
The fruit is a spherical capsule, 2-3 millimeters in diameter, and splits into 5 valves when mature. The seeds are numerous, small, and brown. The flowering period is in April, and the fruiting period is in May.
Throat grass grows in grasslands, along roadsides, and in pastures. It is widely distributed from Hebei in the north to Guangdong and Yunnan in the south, and from Sichuan to Qinghai in the west.
