【Morphology of Mujingli】
Mujingli is a deciduous shrub or small tree, growing up to 1-5 meters tall. It has many branches and a fragrant smell. The small branches are four-sided, green, and covered in coarse hairs, while older branches are brown and round.
It has palmate compound leaves with opposite arrangement; there are usually five leaflets, occasionally three, with the central one being the largest. The leaflets are lanceolate or elliptical-lanceolate, with a wedge-shaped base and coarse serrations along the edges. The upper surface is green, and the lower surface is light green, often covered in soft hairs.
The inflorescence is a conical panicle, 10-20 cm long. The calyx is bell-shaped with five toothed lobes at the tip, and the corolla is pale purple with five split lips. The fruit of Mujingli is spherical and black. The flowering and fruiting period is from July to October.
