Wild Yuzhi, a traditional Chinese medicine. It is the fruit of the Alocasia macrorrhiza plant in the Araceae family. It is distributed in southern China, southwestern China, as well as Fujian, Taiwan, and Hunan. Wild Yuzhi has the function of promoting qi circulation and relieving pain. It is used for intestinal hernia.
Harvesting and storage: Harvest in summer and dry in the sun.
Original form of Alocasia, a perennial herbaceous plant that can grow up to 5m tall. The stem is thick, reaching up to 30cm in diameter. Leaves are alternate; leaf stalks are thick and strong, ranging from 60-90cm in length, with the lower part being larger and embracing the stem; leaf blades are broadly ovate, 30-90cm long and 20-60cm wide, with a short pointed tip and a broad heart-shaped arrowhead base, with 9-12 pairs of prominent and thick veins, green in color. The flowers are monoecious; the inflorescence stalk is thick and 15-20cm long; the spathe tube of the spadix is 3-4cm long, pale green in color, boat-shaped bracts are 10-14cm long and 4-5cm wide, greenish-yellow in color with a sharp tip; the spadix is shorter than the spathe; the female inflorescence is 2-2.5cm long, located at the lower part; the neutral inflorescence is 2.5-3.5cm long, located above the female inflorescence; the male inflorescence is 3cm long, located above the neutral inflorescence; the appendix is about 3cm long, with a reticulate groove; the ovary has 3-4 chambers. The berries are red. 1-2 seeds. Flowering period is from spring to autumn.
Habitat and ecological environment: It grows in the wild at altitudes below 1700m.
