  Nv Lou Cai is a biennial or perennial herbaceous plant, 20-70cm tall. The entire plant is covered with short and soft hairs. The stem is erect and branches from the base. The leaves are opposite, with the upper leaves sessile and the lower leaves with short petioles;

  The capsules are elliptical and 6-lobed at the apex, with the outer sepals almost the same length as the fruit. The seeds are numerous, small, dark brown, and have tubercular projections. The flowering period is from May to June, and the fruiting period is from July to August.

  The entire plant is densely covered with short and soft hairs, 20-70cm long. The roots are slender and spindle-shaped, with lignification. The stem base branches extensively. The leaves are opposite, with the complete leaf blades lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, 4-7cm long, 4-8mm wide, with an acute apex and a gradually narrowing base;

  The upper leaves of Nv Lou Cai are sessile. The flowers are pink and often 2-3 are borne on the branches. The capsules are elliptical. The seeds are kidney-shaped, small, dark brown, and have tubercular projections on the edges. It has a slight fragrance and a mild taste.

  Nv Lou Cai has the effects of promoting blood circulation, regulating menstruation, promoting lactation, invigorating the spleen, diuresis, and detoxification. It is mainly used to treat irregular menstruation, insufficient lactation, pediatric malnutrition, spleen deficiency edema, and carbuncle and abscess swelling.
