Today, I will introduce the habitat distribution and original form of wild yam fruit!
The original form of wild yam fruit is a perennial herbaceous plant that can grow up to 5m tall. The stem is thick and can reach up to 30cm in diameter. The leaves are alternate, with stout petioles measuring 60-90cm in length. The lower part of the petioles is thick and clasps the stem. The leaf blades are broadly ovate, measuring 30-90cm in length and 20-60cm in width. The apex is short-pointed, and the base is broadly heart-shaped with arrowhead lobes. There are 9-12 pairs of thick and prominent secondary veins, and the color is green. The flowers are monoecious, meaning both male and female flowers are found on the same plant. The inflorescence stalk is stout, measuring 15-20cm in length. The tubular calyx of the female flowers is 3-4cm long and pale green. The boat-shaped bracts are 10-14cm long and 4-5cm wide, with a sharp apex and greenish-yellow color. The spike inflorescence is shorter than the bracts. The female inflorescence is 2-2.5cm long and located at the lower part, while the neutral inflorescence is 2.5-3.5cm long and located above the female inflorescence. The male inflorescence is 3cm long and located above the neutral inflorescence. The accessory organs are about 3cm long and have a reticulate groove. The ovary has 3-4 chambers. The fruit is red, and there are 1-2 seeds. The flowering period is from spring to autumn.
