Traditional Chinese Medicine Remedies for Tuberculosis: The Power of Lungxincao

Tuberculosis, also known as pulmonary tuberculosis, is mainly caused by infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is characterized by symptoms such as persistent cough and sputum production. So what are some traditional Chinese medicine remedies for treating tuberculosis? Below, we recommend the use of Lungxincao (Herba Hedyotis diffusa) for stewing and consumption, as it has the effect of moisturizing the lungs and stopping coughing.


Introduction to Lungxincao

Origin: Lungxincao is the whole herb of Hedyotis diffusa, a plant of the Rubiaceae family.

Harvesting: It is harvested in summer and autumn, washed, and dried.

Distribution: It grows on mountain slopes, forest edges, under trees, or grassy slopes. It can be found in Yunnan, Sichuan, Hunan, Hubei, Shaanxi, Henan, and other places.

Efficacy: Lungxincao has the effects of clearing heat, moisturizing the lungs, reducing swelling, and relieving pain. It is mainly used to treat tuberculosis, parotitis, lymphadenitis, pharyngitis, leukorrhea, hot toxic sores, and injuries from falls and blows.

Usage: It can be taken internally as a decoction, 3-5 qian (about 9-15 grams), or powdered for external application.

Take 50 grams of fresh leaves and tender tips of Lungxincao, chop them with a knife, add one chicken egg and mix well, add a little salt, stir-fry in vegetable oil in a pan, and consume after removing from the pan. It can treat cough.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatments with Lungxincao

1. Treatment for chronic cough leading to tuberculosis: Take 2 qian (about 6 grams) of Bai Ce Er (Lungxincao) and 2 qian (about 6 grams) of Lu Xian Cao. Stew and consume with pig lungs. (From "Collection of Folk Prescriptions in Guizhou")

2. Treatment for chronic cough with hemoptysis and women's leukorrhea: Take 5 qian to 1 liang (about 15-30 grams) of Bai Ce Er (Lungxincao), decoct with water, or stew with chicken for consumption. (From "Zhejiang Tiantai Mountain Materia Medica")

3. Treatment for dysentery and anal pain after prolonged diarrhea, accompanied by rectal heat and bleeding: Take 7 to 8 qian (about 21-24 grams) of dried Bai Ce Er (Lungxincao), 4 to 5 qian (about 12-15 grams) of Xian He Cao, Ban Bian Lian, Tian Qing Di Bai Cao, and Mao Cao Gen.
