Dujiaogan: A Chinese Herbal Medicine for Strengthening the Spleen and Eliminating Accumulation

Dujiaogan, a Chinese herbal medicine. It is the whole grass of the plant Dujiaojin of the family Scrophulariaceae. It is used for strengthening the spleen and eliminating accumulation; clearing heat and killing parasites. It is mainly used to treat infantile malnutrition, diarrhea, and hepatitis.

Medicated Recipes with Dujiaogan

① Treatment of infantile marasmus and night blindness: Take 3-5 qian of dujiaogan and cook with pig liver, take it once a day. (Fujian Folk Herbal Medicine)

② Treatment of infantile malnutrition: Take 3-5 qian of dujiaogan whole grass and 3-5 qian of cut leaves of iron broom. Decoct in water and take orally. (Fujian Chinese Herbal Medicine)

③ Treatment of night blindness: Take 5 qian to 1 liang of dujiaogan whole grass. Cook with poultry and livestock liver and take orally. (Fujian Chinese Herbal Medicine)

Methods of Consuming Dujiaogan

【Stewed Meat Patties with Dujiaogan】

Main ingredients: 100g lean pork, 5g dujiaogan, appropriate amount of honey dates, appropriate amount of figs, appropriate amount of Xinhui dried tangerine peel


 

Steps:

1. Cut the lean pork into small pieces, then chop it into minced meat;

2. Wash the dujiaogan with clean water, then soak it in hot water for about half an hour;

3. Prepare figs, honey dates, and a little dried tangerine peel, remove impurities;

4. Pour the dujiaogan and the soaked water into the stew pot;

5. Add dried tangerine peel, figs, and honey dates;

6. Add the minced meat;

7. Cover the stew pot, put a little water in the pressure cooker, place the stew pot directly in it, cover the lid, and cook for about 30 minutes;

8. Release the pressure, take it out and let it cool, then it can be eaten!

Tips:

This soup can also be stewed for two hours in a water bath or using an electric stew pot. I chose to use a pressure cooker for convenience, but the effect is also very good.
 


 

【Stewed Lean Pork with Dujiaogan and Tremella】

Main ingredients: 400g lean pork, 10g dujiaogan, 1/2 tremella, appropriate amount of salt, appropriate amount of coix seed, appropriate amount of lotus seed, appropriate amount of Xinhui dried tangerine peel, appropriate amount of Chinese yam, appropriate amount of honey dates, appropriate amount of ginger slices

Steps:

1. Wash the Chinese yam, lotus seeds, coix seed, honey dates, and dried tangerine peel;

2. Soak the tremella in advance, then tear it into small pieces;

3. Wash the dujiaogan and drain the water;

4. Boil the lean pork and ginger slices in cold water to remove blood and wash;

5. Put the lean pork, dried tangerine peel, Chinese yam, coix seed, and lotus seeds into the pot, add an appropriate amount of water;

6. Add the dujiaogan and tremella, simmer on low heat for about 2 hours;

7. Add salt to taste before serving~
