What does Dawei Yao look like?
Dawei Yao has white flowers, blooming from April to July. It generally grows on slopes and can be found in Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Hainan, and other places in China. The whole plant can be used as medicine, and it has a high medicinal value.
Medicinal Uses of Dawei Yao
Main functions: Used for pneumonia, empyema, sore throat, oral ulcer, bladder stones, and abscesses.
Application:
1. For pneumonia, lung abscess, and empyema: Take 100g of fresh Dawei Yao whole plant, decoct it in water and drink with honey; or grind 100-200g of fresh whole plant into juice, mix it with honey and drink.
2. For scrofula and abdominal pain: Take 50-100g of fresh Dawei Yao whole plant, decoct it in water and drink.
3. For testicular swelling and pain: Take 100g of fresh Dawei Yao roots, decoct it in water and drink.
4. For childhood convulsions: Take 12g of dried Dawei Yao roots and 9g of dried Huangdancao. Add a little salt and stew with water to drink.
5. For oral ulcer: Mash fresh Dawei Yao leaves into juice, rinse the mouth with it 4-6 times a day.
6. For abscesses: Take 100g of fresh Dawei Yao roots, add a little salt. Decoct it in water and drink; take fresh leaves, mash them with cold rice and apply on the affected area. (Recipes 1-6 are from "Fujian Chinese Herbal Medicine")
Clinical applications:

3. The water extract of the roots, when intravenously injected into anesthetized cats, can lower blood pressure and cause respiratory excitement; it has inhibitory effects on the isolated frog heart; while the alcohol extract has no effect.
4. Toxicity: The water extract has slight toxicity, while the alcohol extract has no obvious toxicity.
