【Animal Morphology】
The sparrow is about 16 centimeters long and resembles a house sparrow. The beak is short and thick, with the upper beak dark brown and the lower beak pale yellow. The iris is brown.
The area around the base of the beak and the eye is black; the male bird has grayish-green on the crown, hind neck, throat, and upper chest, and most of the rest of the upper body is olive-brown, with blackish-brown feather shafts; the wings and tail are mostly blackish-brown, with lighter edges;
The outermost tail feathers are mostly white, with a pair of wedge-shaped white spots; the underparts from the upper chest to the lower tail are lemon yellow, with blackish-brown longitudinal stripes on both sides. The feet have four toes and are pale yellow.
The plumage of the female bird is similar to that of the male, with only the crown and hind neck slightly olive-brown, with faint black stripes; the eyebrow is slightly brown; the throat and chest are olive-yellow with dark brown spots.
It inhabits sparse forests or shrubs in valleys, riverbanks, or plain swamps, and grows in grassy areas in autumn.
It feeds on various weeds, wild plant seeds, grains, and insects. It is distributed in northeastern China. During migration, it is found throughout North and Central China. It winters in various locations in South China.
