January 6, 2024

Baiduc grass is the rhizome or whole herb of the gymnosperm Auricularia auricula-judae. Its properties are bitter and cold. It is used to treat wind toxic sores, itching, eczema, and abnormal vaginal discharge. Let's take a look at its growth environment and plant morphology with the help of the following pictures!

The plant morphology of Baiduc grass

The plant is 8-22cm tall. The rhizome grows horizontally and is densely covered with rust-red, linear lanceolate scales and white soft hairs.

The leaves are clustered; the leaf stalks are wiry, hard, 5-10cm long, chestnut-colored, and sparsely covered with light brown long hairs from the base to the top.

The leaf blade is thick and papery, lanceolate, 5-15cm long, 1.5-4cm wide, with large pinnules at the apex, which can reach up to 3cm in length and are pinnately lobed.

There are 3-11 pairs of pinnules, alternate, ovate or elongate ovate, heart-shaped at the base, asymmetrical, sometimes with small ear-like protuberances, blunt at the apex, with short petioles at the base, entire margin, dark green on the surface, sparsely covered with soft hairs, and rusty hairs on the back.

The sporangia are linear, borne on both sides of the lateral veins, hidden among the hairs; there is no sporangial cover.
