Shuòxié is a traditional Chinese medicine that promotes blood circulation and disperses blood stasis. It is also known as Jiégǔcǎo, Zǒumǎjiàn, and Luòdédǎ. The entire plant of Shuòxié, including the roots, can be used medicinally to treat conditions such as rheumatism and injuries from falls or blows. Let's take a closer look at the efficacy and functions of Shuòxié.

【Efficacy and Functions of Shuòxié】
Traditional Chinese medicine believes that Shuòxié has the effects of dispelling wind and dampness, promoting blood circulation, and dispersing blood stasis. It is mainly used to treat rheumatism, nephritis edema, foot swelling, dysentery, jaundice, chronic bronchitis, rubella itching, erysipelas, abscess swelling, injuries from falls or blows, and fractures.
1. "Bièlù": It is used to treat itching, rashes, and dampness caused by wind. It can be used as a bath solution.
2. "Rì Huā Zǐ Běn Cǎo": It is used to treat scabies and rheumatism. It is boiled and soaked, and the leaves can also be used.
3. "Chángshā Yàojiě": It promotes blood circulation, removes blood stasis, treats edema, resolves dampness and masses, breaks down blood stasis, treats itching and rashes caused by wind, and is applied to swollen and painful knees and feet.
4. "Fēnlèi Cǎoyào Xìng": The roots are used to treat muscle and bone pain, pain in both feet, and injuries from falls or blows.

【Pharmacological Effects of Shuòxié】
1. Accelerating fracture healing
Artificially induced fractures in rabbits were fixed with splints and externally applied Shuòxié (mixed with alcohol) every 3 days.
On the fourth week, there were dense and large amounts of bone scabs and significant calcification (X-ray) in the fracture site. Tissue slices showed that most of the large bone scabs had ossified, and a large number of bone trabeculae had formed.
Radioactive phosphorus-32 was injected into the local hematoma of the fracture and Shuòxié was applied. The pulse disappearance rate was faster, indicating a "blood circulation and stasis-dispelling" effect. The deposition of phosphorus in the tissues was also higher than that in the control group, indicating that Shuòxié can promote the deposition of phosphorus in the bone scabs and accelerate fracture healing.
2. Anti-inflammatory effect
External application of Shuòxié alcohol paste on rabbits did not cause local blood vessel dilation. Its decoction had no significant effect on the contraction of blood vessels in frog lower limbs, but at higher concentrations, it had a significant vasoconstricting effect on isolated rabbit ear blood vessels. Its ointment also showed a mild reduction in capillary permeability in rabbits and mice experiments. The above effects may be related to its anti-inflammatory effect.
3. Other effects
Shuòxié decoction did not show analgesic effects in the hot plate test in mice, and it had no inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli in vitro.
