Ge Ling:
Annual aquatic herb. Leaves are dimorphic; floating leaves are clustered at the stem apex; leaf stalks may or may not have hairs, with elongated oval spongy air sacs in the middle and upper parts.
Leaf blades are nearly triangular or diamond-shaped, 1.5-3.5 cm long, 1.5-4 cm wide, with larger dentate teeth in the middle and upper parts of the margin, wedge-shaped or broadly wedge-shaped at the base, green and hairless on the upper surface, and sparsely soft-haired along the veins on the lower surface. Submerged leaves are pinnately divided.
Flowers are bisexual, white, and born in the leaf axils; flower stalks are about 1.5 cm long and covered with short soft hairs; calyx has 4 lanceolate or elliptic sepals, about 5 mm long, and hairy along the ridge; petals number 4; stamens number 4; ovary is semi-inferior with a single style.
