Lianzi (lotus seeds) is a highly nutritious medicinal food ingredient, with various effects such as calming, strengthening the heart, and anti-aging. The most common way we consume it is by making congee with lotus seeds, mainly because this method can maximize the effectiveness of lotus seeds!
Medicated Recipe 1: Poria and Lotus Seed Sweet Congee
Ingredients: 100g rice, 30g lotus seeds, 30g poria, 10g red dates, and some brown sugar.
Instructions: Cook the red dates, lotus seeds, poria, and rice over low heat until soft, then add brown sugar to taste.
Effect: Nourishes the spleen, dispels dampness, and invigorates qi and blood.
Medicated Recipe 2: Snow Pear, Tremella, Red Date, and Lotus Seed Soup
Ingredients: 1 snow pear, 30g tremella, 20g lotus seeds, and 5 red dates.
Instructions: Peel and cut the snow pear into pieces. Soak and wash the tremella, lotus seeds, and red dates. Put the snow pear, tremella, red dates, lotus seeds, and an appropriate amount of rock sugar in a pot. Add enough water (about 2-3 times the volume of all the ingredients). Bring to a boil over high heat, then simmer on low heat for 1 hour.
Effect: Moistens the lungs, stops coughing, aids digestion, and nourishes the spleen and yin.
Medicated Recipe 3: Lotus Seed and Lily Sugar Water
Ingredients: 20g lotus seeds, 20g lily bulbs, 10g red dates, and some rock sugar.
Instructions: Cook the lotus seeds until soft, then add the lily bulbs and red dates. Simmer for 15 minutes and add an appropriate amount of rock sugar.
Effect: Nourishes the spleen, calms the mind, nourishes yin, and moistens the lungs. This sugar water is most suitable for the late summer and early autumn.
Medicated Recipe 4: Tremella and Lotus Seed Soup
Ingredients: 50g lotus seeds, 30g tremella, and 100g rock sugar.
Instructions: Soak the lotus seeds and tremella in water, then remove. Put the lotus seeds, tremella, and rock sugar in a bowl, add an appropriate amount of water, and steam in a steamer over high heat for 1 hour.
Effect: The soup is thick, sweet, and has the function of nourishing the lungs and stomach.
