Methods of Fire Cupping: Techniques for Creating Negative Pressure with Fire

November 28, 2023

It is a method of using fire to burn and create negative pressure inside the jar, causing the jar to adhere to the skin. When using it, attention should be paid to avoid overheating the jar mouth to prevent scalding the skin. The operation methods are as follows:

1. Flash fire method: Use tweezers to hold the fuel, ignite it, and let the fire circulate inside the jar for 1-3 laps. Then quickly remove the fire and suck the jar onto the skin. This method is relatively safe as there is no fire inside the jar, and it is one of the most commonly used methods in clinical practice.

2. Fire throwing method: Use flammable paper or cotton, ignite it, quickly throw it into the jar, and quickly secure the jar on the predetermined pulling site to adhere to the skin. This method is suitable for the lateral part of the body and is commonly used in clinical practice.

3. Alcohol dripping method: Use 95% alcohol or liquor and drip 1-3 drops into the jar (do not pour too much to avoid leakage and scalding of the skin during jar removal). Shake it along the inner wall of the jar, ignite it, and quickly secure the jar on the pulling site to adhere to the skin.

4. Cotton sticking method: Use a suitable-sized alcohol cotton ball, stick it on the lower 1/3 of the inner wall of the jar, ignite it with fire, and quickly secure it on the pulling site to adhere to the skin.

5. Fire placement method: Use non-flammable and non-heat-conductive objects such as bottle caps or small wine cups (with a diameter smaller than the jar mouth), place them on the pulling site, and then place 95% alcohol or alcohol cotton ball inside the bottle cap or wine cup. Ignite the alcohol with fire and quickly secure the jar, allowing it to adhere to the skin. When using this method, be careful not to knock over the bottle cap or small wine cup to avoid scalding the skin.
