Ginger skin, also known as ginger peel or fresh ginger skin, is the outer skin of the rhizome of the ginger plant (Zingiber officinale Rosc.), a member of the ginger family. In autumn, the rhizome of the ginger plant is dug up, washed, and the outer skin is scraped off and dried in the sun.
[Processing method] According to the book "Huo You Xin Shu": "Slightly washed and dried." Currently, the raw medicinal material is taken, impurities are removed, and ash debris is sieved.
[Appearance of medicinal slices] It is semi-curled fragments, yellowish-white or grayish-yellow in color, with visible joint marks. It is light in weight and soft in texture. It has a fragrant aroma and a slightly spicy taste.
[Processing function] Ginger skin has a pungent and cool taste. It belongs to the spleen and lung meridians. It has the function of promoting water circulation and reducing swelling. It is used for edema and bloating. For example, in cases of facial swelling, swollen limbs, and abdominal distension, it can be used in a formula called "Wu Pi San" (from "Ju Fang"). Processing can make the medicinal material clean and free from impurities.
