Almost every family with a baby will have fever patches on hand. When a baby has a high fever, they will feel very uncomfortable. Parents are worried that fever will affect their baby's intelligence. So, can fever patches reduce fever?
Can Fever Patches Reduce Fever?
Fever patches are not medical products. As mentioned earlier, fever patches are ineffective. However, some fever patches contain substances such as menthol and eucalyptus oil, which can provide some comfort to the baby and soothe their crying. If the baby does not resist, it can be used.
However, if the child strongly resists or experiences skin allergic reactions such as rash or swelling, it should not be forced.
After all, fever patches on the market are not cheap, and their insignificant fever-reducing effect is not as good as spending the money on buying delicious and fun things for the child.
The Correct Approach to Baby's Fever
1. Taking medicine is not necessary at 38.5℃. Every child is different, and 38.5℃ is just a reference temperature. It does not mean that fever medicine must be taken as soon as the temperature reaches this level. If the baby's body temperature reaches 38.5℃ but their mental state is relatively good, they can eat and play normally, so there is no need to rush to take fever medicine. Observe the baby's body temperature closely, and if it reaches 39℃, medication can be considered.
If the baby's mental state is poor and they are continuously restless and crying, it is time to take fever medicine.
2. Proper use of fever medicine. Using fever medicine with a single active ingredient is a safer way to reduce fever. The World Health Organization recommends using ibuprofen (e.g. Meilin) or acetaminophen (e.g. Tainuolin) as fever medicine, but it does not recommend using both drugs simultaneously.
The comparison of the use of these two safe fever medicines is as follows: If the child continues to have fever symptoms or the fever-reducing effect is not obvious after taking fever medicine, parents should pay attention to whether the dosage of the fever medicine is sufficient and whether the child is drinking enough water.
3. What to do if the fever causes febrile convulsions? Febrile convulsions in babies are a strong reaction to fever. Symptoms of febrile convulsions include convulsions, rolling eyes, and even foaming at the mouth. These symptoms can make parents feel frightened, and improper handling can harm the baby.
Pinching the person's center, forcefully giving the child fever medicine, attempting to put towels, fingers, or other objects into the baby's mouth, or poking the throat are all absolutely not advisable!
4. Go to the hospital as soon as possible in these situations. If the baby has abnormal symptoms in addition to fever, they should go to the hospital as soon as possible: appearing lethargic, poor appetite, drowsiness or restlessness;
Accompanied by ear pain, diarrhea, vomiting, sore throat, etc .; a history of febrile convulsions; infants under 3 months old with a body temperature exceeding 38℃.
